Projects - Past & Present
Bay Street Project 1 & 2: A History
In the summer of 1974, the Finlandia Club of Thunder Bay received financial assistance from the Secretary of State (Community Services Program) to research local Finnish Canadian immigration history. A group of researchers established headquarters at the Finlandia Club on Bay Street, and thus evolved the name Bay Street Project.
Throughout the summer, the group collected historical/archival material, both written and oral, on local Finnish-Canadian immigrants and produced a preliminary manuscript of findings up to 1914. This project provided the foundation for the Thunder Bay Finnish Canadian Historical Society, which was established in the fall of 1974.
